Transiberiana d'Italia -- to Castel di Sangro

Today we started off the morning with a gorgeous view of the mountains from our hotel window which we took as a good sign for the day!

Around 8:15am we met in the lobby to head to the train station where we took the Transiberian d'Italia https://www.myitaliandiaries.com/traveling-on-the-italian-trans-siberian-railway/ through the mountains to Castel di Sangro https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castel_di_Sangro. A few photos from the Sulmona station, the train, and three Italian musicians who provided some songs along the way.

We arrived in Castel di Sangro and walked to lunch at Le Tre Chiavi starting with a lovely prosciutto and fruit first course.

To be honest, this was the longest ride to get to lunch I think we have ever taken. The train was historic with hard wooden seats and we were all glad that our bus met us in Castel di Sangro for the drive home with padded seats! On the way, we stopped at a town where many Italians disembarked. Michael noticed a sign Gabinetti which is what Italians used to call bathrooms. Of course, he got started with saying that we were stopping at a town called Gabinetti and it all became more hysterical when he shot this photo with what might be interpreted as a line to the bathroom! After a long day, even that got us all laughing!
